Thank you for staying with us, we hope you enjoyed your stay!
Being that I am traveling this week and most of next week I thought I would do a little post here on what I hate about hotels. Don't get me wrong I love being away, not having to cook or clean or make the beds but there are a few things that I don't like about being in a hotel.
In case you don't know I have a bit of self diagnosed OCD. I like order and CLEAN. When you first enter the room it's clean and orderly but I'm a little worried about germs, particularly in the bathroom area. Antibacterial wipes are in full effect when I first enter that room.
Why do they always have the chairs in a position where you can't sit there and watch TV? I always have to rearrange everything just so I don't have to sit on the bed to see the TV.
Does anyone ever unpack and put their clothes in the dressers provided? I don't, EVER. So why not take the dresser out and leave me some more room to put all my stuff?
Don't give me a window if it doesn't have a decent view.period. A beautiful view of the parking garage is NOT a BEAUTIFUL view at all.
Why put air conditioning in and then set it at 77 or 78 degrees and give each room a thermostat? Seriously do you think the incoming guest isn't going to turn it down?
The number ONE thing that I don't like about hotels is that when I wake up in the middle of the night there is no other room for me to go to. When I am home and I can't sleep I get up and move to another room I can't do that in the hotel unless I just go sit in the bathroom, and that ain't happening. That is hands down the most aggravating part of being in a hotel for me.
Go ahead lay it on me? Anything that bothers you about being in a hotel? Or am I the only one who has these issues?
I'm a freak about the germs too. I will not sit directly on the bed spread. Ever. I've also heard the remote is the dirtiest thing in a hotel room. I always try to wash my hands or use the anti-bac after I'm done touching the remote. Yuck!
I try to plug my ears, close my eyes and ignore all this talk about hotel germs!
That being said, I will not ever, pull the bedspread up anywhere near my face. It has to remain folded way down away from me. Of course I am then freezing all night and can't sleep.
Oh I know about the dresser thing. I mean, like anybody's going to put their clothes in there. I don't think I've ever tried to watch TV at a hotel room. Bed spread thing gets me too. Oh and the water pressure of the shower. I'm always pissed at how low it is.
If I am there for more than 2 days, stuff goes into the drawers and closet, hanging up. I do *not* like folding and unfolding clothes to get to the bottom of the suitcase and find the one thing I want to wear. I also pack a lot of 'what ifs' because I do not have a lot of clothes that fit me well, so I pack stuff that *might* work in certain situations.
I try not to think about the germs. I have stayed in a LOT of hotels, and they haven't killed me yet ... so I think my not thinking about them actually kills them off. *shifty eyes* I have been known to use some antibacterial wipes, though, if we can't afford the nicer mid-range hotels we prefer (Sheraton is my fav, DoubeTree is my exbf's fav, and Wyndham is another one we enjoy).
I think they put the air up at 78ish so that the incoming person CAN set it where they prefer - it isn't overwhelmingly hot or cold, so the temp is easily raised or lowered from that point, depending on preference.
I do not like when the curtains do not completely black out all of the light from outside. I tend not to sleep well in my OWN bed - you can imagine that hotels are not easier. So at 10 a.m. when I still want to be sleeping, i do NOT want my room to be completely lit by the sunshine, no matter how pretty it is outside.
I also wish they'd get decent midnight snack foods in hotels. I do not typically fall asleep til 2 or 3 a.m., and it would be nice to have some fruit to snack on rather than junkfood.
The ice machines freak me out ... i use them to chill stuff, but not to eat/drink. So when there is not a refrigerator, I get upset. When I come home, I do not want a drink sitting in a bucket of melted ice... i want a cool drink. Yanno?

I like hotels for a day or two, but the part I hate most about traveling is having to eat every meal out. Bleh
