These are only numbers, they have absolutely no meaning to you. I know this. What they mean to me is perspective.
You sometimes need perspective to understand the full picture. I can say these numbers to you and you can say, wow that's great but unless you know the full picture you won't fully understand.
I wasn't going to do another post about swimming. It was a promise to myself. EVEN I am sick of hearing about swimming. I thought I would breathe some new life into my lifeless blog and talk about ANYTHING other than swimming.
Tonight I needed to take a step back and reel myself in. I needed to know the whole picture before saying what I did. In my mind I did know the whole picture but I lost perspective. I needed to save my child emotionally from a huge breakdown. So frustrated I sat down in my chair, trying to look occupied I grabbed the meet program, opened it up and began to read the front pages. It was there I gained perspective. I realized what I needed to help my child before she was so thick in it she wouldn't be able to recover.
Numbers. All I needed to do was to be reminded of the numbers and the BIG picture. Here's an explanation:
38 Teams from 7 States
321 Females 274 Males 595 Total
3156 Total individual entries in the meet
Mini was seeded 10th in the 200 Back
Mini was seeded 12th in the 100 Back
Mini finished 6th in the 200 Back
Mini finished 9th in the 100 Back
That's an improvement of 4 places in the 200 back
That's an improvement of 3 places in the 100 back
Here's the problem, the times were not where they should have been. When you are swimming it isn't only about the position of the finish. It's about the time on the clock. Even if she would have finished first she would not have been happy, she needed that time on the clock. When you are not hitting your potential it wears on your confidence. In order to try to regain confidence I went to the numbers to try to show the big picture. When you look at the numbers in the whole big picture you understand just what it all means.
Did I save her? I don't know. I won't know until she hits the water again tomorrow.

Hope it helped. Hope she sees the big picture even though the time was not what was expected because I think the improvement of the placement could mean that the overall swimming condition affected many other swimmers.
I hope she regains her confidence tomorrow. Go minisurf!!!!!
(((HUGS)))
I've got some numbers 2.
1 should know better.
While you were pregnant you 8 4 2.
When asked if he was guilty, Goebels replied "9!"

hahahahahaha!!!!!
maybe @mini should know that besides her rw friends and supporters, she has bunches and bunches of social networking supporters :) cause we support and believe in her too.
Wow, Mom, what great perspective!
My son is the same way. If he doesn't pitch the ball exactly where he wants it, it's a bad pitch. Even if the batter has to foul it off. He's only happy if he strikes them out in 3.
That is a great way to put things in perspective. I hope it helped and mini swam like the wind!
That is great perspective, you are such a great mother! You should be so proud of minisurf and all of her accomplishments.
You are such a wonderful, incredible Mom.
Kudos to you for helping put it in perspective for her - I hope it helped her put it in perspective for herself. xoxoxox
